I stand strongly in the belief of "Mothering the Mother."
The first few weeks postpartum can be a vulnerable time for new and growing families. The transition of bringing a new baby into the home is often fueled by an array of emotions. From love, gratitude, wonder, excitement and joy, to worry and unexpected feelings of overwhelm and uncertainty. There is no journey quite like this one and I would love to support you and your family during this transition.
So what is a postpartum doula? I have often heard of a postpartum doula being described as an extra. An extra set of hands, extra eyes, an extra ear and extra support. I have completed vigorous training to bring you knowledge on postpartum recovery, feeding, newborn care and postpartum mental health. If something comes up that is outside of my scope of training, I am able to make the appropriate referal.
Newborn Care
New babies are intimidating! A large part of what I do as a postpartum doula is teaching you about your new baby. Did you know a newborn's stomach is only the size of a cherry? During our first meeting, I will go over newborn care, such as bathing, identifying fontanels, feeding and changing. We will talk about crying and sleep, as well as input and output.
Light Household Duties
The postpartum period should be all about bonding and rest. Let me take some of the burden of household chores off your shoulders! I can do light house cleaning, including laundry and vacuuming. As well, a significant part of my role as a postpartum doula is preparing nutrient dense meals!
Emotional Support
Following the birth of your baby, you are likely to experience a surge of emotions. It is easy to get caught up in the bliss of your new baby and suddenly become overwhelmed with day to day life. Maybe you are not sleeping enough or eating enough. Maybe your birth didn't go as anticipated or you are left with trauma. Those feelings are normal and I am here to be a listening ear and hold space for your feelings. Sometimes all it takes is someone to listen and validate the emotions you are feeling.
Feeding Support
However you choose to feed your baby is up to you. A fed baby is the best baby. I have a wide range of knowledge on both breastfeeding, formula feeding, combo feeding, exclusively pumping AND donor feeding!
I am able to assist you in learning to breastfeed your baby if that is the option you have chosen.
This option is perfect for those who are undecided on postpartum care. This is also an amazing baby shower gift! This package will get you 4 hours of postpartum care and is best used within the first 2 weeks after birth.
